Giving back to the communities where we work is a vital part of our ethos at Plan B Management Solutions. Our Random Acts of Kindness initiative enables our employees to give back in their own way to the causes they feel passionate about. Recently, our head office team pooled their funds and donated to two local, volunteer-run food banks which provide support for the homeless community.
Meanwhile, Kelly Miller (pictured below), our Principal Advisor, is also an Advanced Waste Prevention Advisor for West Sussex County Council (WSCC), a volunteer role she predominantly undertakes in her own time during weekends and evenings. Run by WSCC, the waste prevention scheme is primarily about community engagement with volunteers asked to spread the waste prevention messages of: refuse, reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.

As part of this role, she also volunteers for the WSCC UK Harvest food waste minimisation project in West Sussex. “When I volunteer during working hours, I use my social value allocation given to me by Plan B Management Solutions, which I’m very grateful for,” she says. Stocked with farm and supermarket oversupply of fresh produce, visitors bring a shopping bag and fill it from a selection of mixed groceries and rescued produce for a suggested donation of £5.
It’s about more than just the food though. “There’s always tea, coffee, biscuits, and time for a chat,” Kelly says. It’s a multi-agency community touch point and other services are often available such as NHS checks, CALM, Refuge etc. “I really believe in the power of community. I’ve seen how much grassroots change is made possible by everyday people who turn up and do something,” Kelly says.
Our team has also donated to a range of great charities, including the Caister Lifeboat, Age Connect Great Yarmouth, a local children’s hospital ward funding Christmas gifts, the Cheltenham Food Bank, and Shrewsbury ARK, a charity and day centre in Shropshire for people experiencing homelessness and feeling vulnerable. And, at our Bridgend site, we recently launched a community fund.
