Our Team

Maz Akhtar

Managing Director

MA, IOSH (Directors and Managers), CPC National, CoTC

Maz is a hands-on practitioner and has operated in the waste and environmental sector for over 20 years. Maz is multi skilled having held various posts in operations as well as leading the bid team for a large multi-national Environmental services business. Maz has won Municipal contracts with single, twin and multi stream recycling services and is well versed in balancing operational realities against overall service costs including cost or revenues of recycling materials.

Since 2019, Maz has either been or worked with the masterminds behind mobilising Latco’s for various councils, which include Cheshire West, Canterbury City Council and the London Borough of Ealing. He has been the driving force behind procurement and managing tender processes.

Craig Cutajar

Director Material Sales BA (Hons), MCIPD

Craig leads Plan B’s Material Trading Team, juggling an impressive 260,000 tonnes of recyclable materials every year! He is an expert in the world of material trading, using sophisticated trading strategies that consistently outperform industry standards, whilst ensuring compliance through robust due diligence. With his sharp analytical skills, meticulous approach, and a talent for building strong relationships, Craig’s clients are in the safest of hands.

Craig is also a chartered Human Resources professional with 6 years of experience in the world of HR. Craig’s industry knowledge will be available to the project team as needed for example modelling logistics options for recyclable materials and exploring opportunities to create greater value from the materials.

Steve Batchelor

Director, Consultancy Services

DMS, CPC National

Steve leads Plan B’s skilled consultancy team in the delivery of environmental services projects for our Council & LATCO customers. As Director of Consultancy Services he empowers his team of industry experts to provide high-quality, practical solutions that consistently yield impressive results. With over 35 years’ experience in designing and executing environmental services for local authorities, Steve brings a wealth of experience.

He’s deeply familiar with various procurement procedures from a bidder’s perspective. His projects have involved refining contract documents, including pricing schedules, payment mechanisms and performance frameworks. Over the past decade, Steve has worked extensively in a bidding environment. His expertise allows him to create tailored, cost-effective, and achievable solutions for waste collection, HWRC’s, and street scene services.

Greg Mitchell

Principal Advisor BSc Physiology & Biochemistry (Hons)

Greg has over 20 years of experience in Environmental Services, within the Grounds Maintenance, Estates and Street Cleansing and Waste Management Sectors. He’s worked in both the private sector with multinational contractors and as a specialised consultant for Local Authorities and Housing Associations, helping them streamline their services and make them more cost-efficient.

Greg excels in ensuring accurate service data and crafting detailed specifications based on industry best practice and local conditions. His commitment to providing the best service within budget constraints whilst prioritising customer satisfaction, sets him apart. His wealth of experience makes him a valuable asset in this field, such as winning successful bids with clients such as Solihill MBC for Street Scene, Recycling and Refuse Collection Services Contract; Hammersmith and Fulham Waste Management and Street Cleansing Contract; Bexley Council’s Street Services Contract and London Borough of Newham Grounds Maintenance Contract.

Jemma Thripp

SHEQ MANAGER

BSc Environmental Science, IOSH Technical Member, NEBOSH

With seven years of valuable experience under her belt, Jemma has a wealth of specialised environmental and health and safety compliance experience. She has provided expert advice for the environmental services which includes conducting audits and inspections, making compliance improvements and taking the lead on environmental permits transfers and variations.

Jemma has teamed up with the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales on multiple sites, turning compliance challenges into success stories for both clients and regulators. Jemma has recently lent her expertise to LB Ealing and Canterbury City Council, helping them set up their LATCo’s and led on the transfer of Cheshire West and Chester’s environmental permits. Jemma keeps us up to date with our own ISO14001, 45001 and 9001 management systems, along with our additional accreditations with Safety Schemes in Procurement and Investors in People.

Kelly Miller

Principal Advisor – Solution Specialist: Technical & Strategy

Kelly is a seasoned environmental expert with 23 years of experience. She excels at developing and delivering transformational projects aligned with industry best practices. Her collaborative approach helps organisations overcome barriers and achieve their goals. Known for her reliability and commitment, Kelly navigates complex socio-political landscapes efficiently. She’s a go-to professional for local authorities seeking detailed analysis and transformation programs for environmental services.

Kelly ensures services prioritise environmental improvement, aiming to reduce impact and reach net zero. With high standards and confident communication skills, Kelly is dedicated to achieving the very best outcomes for her clients.

Natasha Jeffrey

Solution Specialist (Data & Graphic Design)

BSc Environmental Science

Natasha has three years’ experience in the waste industry working as an Operations Analyst, which included several round optimisation and re-routing projects. Natasha has experience in the creation of 3D site models, Sanky diagrams tracking the movement of material tonnages and process mapping diagrams.

Natasha is well practiced in presenting data in a clear, easy to understand fashion, as well as creating and distributing KPI dashboards to measure performance, identify trends and help highlight areas for improvement to drive meaningful change. Natasha enjoys research projects and problem solving to help support to a wider team, bringing her cheerful, friendly manner and ‘can-do’ attitude to any project she is involved in.

Shaun Eldridge

Head of Material Sales

Shaun is an experienced environmental services manager with over 13 years of experience in operations, waste transfer and material sales, and a further 20 years in business management within the manufacturing industry. Shaun has undertaken a variety of roles during this time which include general management, operations, finance, business development and contract support.

Tim Myers

Principal Advisor – Solution Specialist: Commercial

HND (QS)

Tim is a commercial specialist with over 40 years’ experience in both private and public sectors. He’s adept at contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and leading teams of surveyors and other personnel. From managing installations to negotiating multimillion-pound contracts for companies, Tim’s track record speaks for itself.

Tim’s expertise spans specialist subcontracting, facilities management, and environmental contracts. He has managed his own procurement teams whilst working for the likes of Carillion, preparing tender documents for contractors. More recently at Plan B, Tim led the commercial efforts for a public sector tendering project at Gunnersbury Park. His experience and resourcefulness make him a valuable asset in delivering quality service to customers.

Matt Ling

Principal Advisor

BSc (Hons) Sustainability & Environmental Management, NEBS – Management Certificate, IOSH

With 35 years industry experience, Matt is a passionate, resourceful and adaptable professional with a proven track record of successfully managing municipal service contracts, with a focus on grounds maintenance and country services.

Matt is a horticulture and streetscene services operational expert, offering consultancy support to a diverse client base, from SME’s to Local Authorities and large private sector service providers.

Matt’s extensive experience covers everything from detailed service reviews to vehicle and equipment procurement. Matt is your go-to for all aspects of the tender process and implementing improvement plans. He’s also skilled in smoothly transitioning services to LATCO’s.

James Davidson

Office Manager

James ensures that our office operations run smoothly, allowing the rest of us to focus on delivering the very best for our clients. James plays a pivotal role in managing and leading the office team. His responsibilities span from contract administration and data analysis to overseeing crucial reporting tasks.

In the past, James has been a sports therapist, has had a career in motor insurance and worked his way up from a claim’s handler to business manager. Following this, he has primarily worked in performance and consultancy roles. What he enjoys the most at Plan B is the atmosphere and work ethic of the team, which creates an environment where effective, efficient and proactive work can be achieved.

Louis Cutajar

Material Sales

Louis has worked in various customer service and sales roles in leisure, insurance and caravan decking. He has previously worked for Plan B as Office Manager, responsible for the back office and accounts function that supports our materials trading work. He has rejoined the business in a commercial and sales role, responsible for the marketing and sales of various materials across our portfolio.

John Biddlestone

Material Sales

John is a qualified Engineer and has over 13 years experience in the waste industry. He spent 10 years working at a 150,000 tonnes per annum materials recycling facility. His roles included Maintenance Manager and Operations Manager, both integral to the performance of the facility. In these roles John has picked invaluable waste processing and materials knowledge that serves him well in his material sales role at Plan B.
